Another top days racing in Sydney and what a difference in track conditions. We will see today if the leaders have any say in the race results. One leader only has won since the return to Randwick so we are following the run on horses today.

April 27th Group Racing at Doomben

Hello once again to what looks to be a very busy weekend for the stable. Great to see the change in the weather and a strong possibility we may even see a return to a good racing surface.

In the 1st we have a nice little Mossman youngster lining up for his 2nd race start. That in itself tells you how big a task I have set for him. Realistically I cannot see him running in the money but the experience will do him good . Hopfgarten ran a cracking debut 4th and that was with a touch of sensitivity in his near fore shin. He may well go sore with the pressure of this race but we won't know that until he races. His work leading up to this has been excellent and Priscilla loves him. He is going to be a very good race horse in time...Not so sure he is ready to step up to the mark just yet but our fingers are crossed. Oh, Hopfgarten, the name.... its a little village in the Austrian mountains where I spent several seasons working in a ski chalet....Absolutely beautiful !

Race 2 we have 2 runners. Vacallo ran super last week and he now backs up into this mile race. That's 2 queries, the mile and the back up? He is racing well and certainly consistent. Ridden quietly he can run on into the money. Tougher race than last week though. Gotcha, he's coming off a good win but that was a month ago...hates the wet so happy to have him back on the dry track. He will be well back and conceding miles of start. I don't think he can overcome the distance he will have to give the leaders but he will be running on and he needs a run.

Volkhere is the 3rd has done a tremendous job this prep. He has been up for quite a while which is my main concern as well as going up considerably in the weights. He can win but it is a tougher race than last week and there is the back-up factor as well. He is racing super though!

The big KIWI in race 4, Pellegrini, won brilliantly at his last run. He is a big bold front running horse who will have to overcome the widest gate in this race. That in itself is a big ask but I think he is good enough to still win. I guess it will depend on whatever takes him on in the run. He is a genuine winning chance if things work out and he's certainly better up on top of the ground even though he won on a wet track at his last start

Silver Bullion has had a freshen up. He is a real roughie in this as he will get back a bit. He could surprise me and run right into it but I reckon he is a better 1200 horse with a good gate.....He has been working super though and I would not be surprised either way.

The 3 year old mile Group race is a real throw at the stumps with our 2 reps in the race. Both will be roughies in what's a tough race. Bewhatyouwannabe is coming off a last start maiden win but he is a progressive racehorse improving with each run. Hard to see him matching it with this quality but he deserves a chance The mile is in his favour and D Browne is also a positive.

Written Above All is much better than his last 2 runs on the wet tracks. Yet to prove himself against a good field but he will race better than his long price reflects his chances. This horse can work brilliantly. Draw wide, he will go back so essential they run this race along at a good tempo or both of mine are a million to one. I won this race last year with Trump...Maybe an omen?

The feature race of the day sees Buffering going for three Victory stakes wins in a row. I reckon he will win...Simple really with a concern being what Larry Cassidy tries to do to get us beaten....Buff is the best horse in this race.

The last race and gee, they don't get much more competitive than this race. Even the handicapper told me it's as good a class 6 as they have rated in a long time.

Show Affection is a classy mare on the up. She is going places but she will need some luck. She has a brilliant finishing sprint and she will love being on a good track. She should be around mid-field in the run and come with a late wide run....Colless is a plus and she can win if things pan out.

Hidden Kisses has been crying out for a dry track and a good draw and she gets both. She is better over a bit further than the 1200 but she has class and she is good enough to figure in the finish of this race. Bribie has the ace draw and whilst yet to step up to the Saturday level, ridden right and with luck, he is good enough to run into a hole. Wow, it's a damn good race to finish off the day and I am not even game to choose one over the other in this race.

Best for the day from our camp?????...winning chance......Buffering. Best value at the odds, maybe Hidden Kisses (early $16 bucks) and she is better than those odds, best long shot and fingers crossed.....Written Above All ( I think I saw $140 to 1 about his chances, so 5 each way wouldnt be silly?)

Cheers and good health folks. Robert

Anzac Day wrap
26 Apr 2013

Now everyone knows why I stick to tipping race horses and not footy!

Great day today with 7 big winners including 5 from Flemington.

Our best bet got done but was never left alone in front so it had excuses.

Specials were good with 2 out of 4 winning and the others running second. Our best each way got up at 15/1 so it should have been a winning day for all.

They're on again Saturday

Anzac Day and the big match
26 Apr 2013

Best bet of the day is Collingwood and looking forward to a ripper game on this special day.

From the races our best today is SR6/5 Shamus and although Joseph Pride has been quiet of late he has a big hand at Warwick Farm with 7 runners. Terravista in race 2/4 is also a big chance and Annabels in 7/1 is also an each way hope if she runs the difference at 1400m for the first time. His single runner at Gosford is 7/1 Let's Rock'n'roll. It could be a big day for this top Warwick Farm trainer.

Good luck to Turbo and the boys with SR8/1 Namsurai which we will make our best each way of the day and to the "Market Gardener" in Perth with PR5/10 Kauri's Tiger which will be at longer odd's.

Doncaster Day wrap
22 Apr 2013

A pretty good day overall and found 3 winners from our five specials. Hope you found a few winners from our 13 top raters. Amazing that Randwick were able to complete thier race meeting with all the rain they got.

We have some exciting breeding news coming up and an offer to join in with one of our breeding ventures that will "curl the Mo". Don't buy another racehorse until you see the offer sometime during this week. It will be worth waiting for.

Havent heard much from Rob lately but here is the run down on todays runners

Racing Eagle Farm and Randwick 20th April 2013

Hi again, just a brief one tonight as its been another long busy week and not all racing related. My son Nick banged his car up ( he only ran a red light and hit two cars) and then Vick had a bingle when a truck reversed his tray through the grill of the Audi into the engine block. Thankfully a winning double on Wednesday helped heal the wounds and the sunshine this past few days has been like methadone to a heroin addict!

Still, it’s wet tracks all around again so what’s changed….It simply has to get better and I am sure it will but this past 90 days with 52 days of rain sure has been ‘character building’ for this trainer and my staff. Plenty of bloody long and wet mornings but fingers crossed

Thank you for your patience and I know there have been many trying times but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. Can you believe there have even been horses we have spelled because they don’t like the wet and they are back racing and yes, guess what…still wet tracks……Makes you want to take up golf on a Saturday eh? Still, its Doncaster Day and it’s not far off one of the biggest racing days on the turf calendar.

We are lucky enough to have a genuine chance with Solzhenitsyn. The likely and forecasted rain will knock his chances on the head. I think he is good enough to win this race. He is a serious racehorse and the mile suits. He is a big strong bastard and the plan is to ride him nice and quiet and see him he can power home up the Randwick hill.

He’s an each way chance at the 20 to 1 odds but wow, we need plenty of things to go right but just fantastic to have a horse good enough to be in the famous mile race.

She’s A Danica is in the Listed 2 year old race. It’s a huge task I have set her as she has missed her trials and jump outs due to the recent wet. Princess tiny feet as we call her may well be looking for the oxygen mask at the furlong but she is no slouch and she’s not down there for a trip to the Opera House! She will come back home with Solzhie on Monday. She can run in the money if she has coped with the trip down. She is a tough little unit.

Back home…AAaaaaarrrrrggghhh, another damn Heavy/Slow track to contend with.

The stables best chance may well be Tail And All in the first. He got the ‘moniker’ when Kevin Thomas at Washpool broke him in and didn’t think he was much good at first….he said he would eat him ‘Tail and All’ if he ever won a race. Hes favourite for this race so Kevs got the sauce and the pepper ready to go!

Vacallo in race 2 at big odds. Got slaughtered at its last run. Can improve on that and run a cheeky race.

Race 4 sees Volkhere line up. He’s coming off an excellent win at his last start. Should have won his previous 2 so Colless goes on for this. Copes with the wet and is a good horse on the up. Been up a while which is the only concern I have .

More More More is a new comer to our joint. Good provincial form and a doubt over his class over this trip but I have been delighted with what I have seen with him since he walked into my yard.

Never Forget in race 5 is a group 2 winner in France but Moody has recently moved her on. She may have lost her ‘mojo’ for now and it remains to be seen if indeed she has found it again. The soft track may well be what she is after. A big watch to be honest but her work has been ok.

Excellantes is a quality horse and whilst he has a non-winning first up record and his wet track form isn’t too flash, I have a feeling he can be competitive. The improving track surface may see him line up? Gate 87 makes it even tougher but scratching and lining up against Buffering next week may be even harder. The big bay has worked the house down this prep and whilst he’s got plenty to overcome, I’d be the least surprised to see his number run a hole?

Maybe 3 quality mares in the last? No fun there racing each other but it’s a Listed Mares race worth a good quid. Funtantes is not suited to the wet as is Hidden Kisses. Fifi is the best on the wet but will get back a bit on what’s likely to be a ploughed paddock by the last. Nah, I’m not going to stick my neck out and pick the best of my mares but I reckon if the track dries out ok, each of them has a chance.

The wet track is my biggest worry in both Randwick and home.

Kind Regards to you all……….Rob and the stable team.

Doncaster Day
21 Apr 2013

Only a slow 7 rating in Sydney for Doncaster day but I would have thought it would be worse. There is still plenty of rain around so expect a downgrade before the races are over.

The race itself has Pierro rated on top and now the rain is here it suits even more. Not much value at $2.70 but the horse they have backed all week also suited by the wet ground is Appearance. Personally I am going to have a touch of Red Tracer at $26 each way. Appearance has beaten it by a nose hair the last time they met and one horse is $8 and the other $26. Each way from the bad barrier for Red Tracer.

The Oaks looks like a race in Dear Demi, Habibi , Longport and Royal Descent- there is your first 4 for the race and although Dear Demi rates on top I think the form horse is Royal Descent.

Looks like a value day again, Ascot looks particularly tough and even all day. I do think the Derby in WA is a race in two Rebelson and Moreish. If Rebelson runs out the 2400 he will be the one but if he doesnt Moreish just wins.

My best bet of the day is MR3/7 Whisper Downs

SR2/1 Eveage looks a good thing as do BR7/1 Better Than Ready,SR9/8 Keiths Legacy and MR8/1 Castlzeberg.

Good luck with your punting today.

Saturday 13/4/2013 Black Caviar day wrap

Only an average day at best but we did get the Sires Produce right and of course Black Caviar. She is a freak and it was a privilege to watch her today.

Specials were all wrong and we have to sack Unimpeachable after today.

Doomben of course was abandoned.

Saturday 13/4/2013 Black Caviar day
14 Apr 2013

Sydney is a buzz with Black Caviar stepping out in the T J Smith Stakes and some jockeys in NSW actually think she is vulnerable because she has drawn Barrier 1 .

I think its superannuation day. Thats right take out your super savings and put them on Black Caviar and overnight you will be 15% better off and enjoy your retirement. She is frankly unbeatable.

If you think Overreach is the bet of the day , think again. Its the Sires Produce over 1400m, the horse backs up after the Slipper win,  and the pro's say she looked as if she had peaked last week. I'm not saying she can't win but at the odds she is vulnerable today and I'm not sure she is as good as Pierro was as a 2YO. Look on today or go for some value in the race.

Best of the day for us on what looks like a tough day are-

SR3/3 Unimpeachable

MR5/2 Star of Giselle

MR7/6 Lady Melksham

Best Each way BR7/12 Sir Knox

Golden Slipper Day 2013
07 Apr 2013

A fabulous race, a fabulous field and a great card leads to plenty of excitement today in the slipper. Looks a ripper day with plenty of value around and we go in with a touch of confidence.

In Perth the WA Oaks has a red hot favourite in Scarletini at $2.00. We are going with the local horse as reports from the track are all is not well with the favourite. If the reports are wrong she wins! Sometimes where there is smoke there is fire and as a result we are going with Moreish to upset the favourite. The Karakatta plate is a hot race and again the East Coast invader looks hard to beat but Camporella has done nothing wrong so we stick.
